Narrative
On an island filled with the destitute and useless, teenager John B enlists his three best friends to search for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance. Chase Stokes, Madeline Cline and their "OBX" co-stars quiz each other on the best lines from their hit Netflix series. Filmed on location in Charleston, South Carolina; It was originally set to film in Wilmington, North Carolina.
So what’s not to like!?
After watching all 3 seasons of Outer Banks, I can’t deny that I was amused and entertained: all the episodes are full of fast-paced adventures, treasure hunts and villain hunts, all in exotic locations and with added romantic entanglements. among the young and attractive members. I also have some reservations.
And of course silly nicknames like JJ and Pope and John B (what’s the B for anyway?)
Everything that happens is extremely far-fetched and unreal: for example, how this group of teenage friends manages to escape again and again right under the noses of the police or heavily armed criminals, often in a hail of bullets, but always unscathed; or how they solve mind-boggling mysteries (such as anciently hidden treasures or the location of the legendary El Dorado) with the snap of a finger or through extraordinary strokes of luck. Apparently, the young actors are supposed to illustrate the meaning of true friendship, but their juvenile behavior slowly gets on your nerves, along with all the bros and dudes and the inevitable upside-down baseball caps. They all look good, but the acting is only adequate, with only Drew Starkey really standing out as the troubled Rafe, and Rudy Pankow being quite convincing as the resourceful, ADHD-fueled J.J.
, hardly transcends the realms of The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew
Maybe as a fairly mature person I shouldn’t be watching this at all, but hey, sometimes it’s nice to go with an easy and pleasant flow without overthinking. The very last scene of season 3 set the stage for another season, I bet I won’t be able to resist it. Again..
