This movie captivated me from the very beginning
Narrative
Ma Chenggang and Chunlan, who have “no oil in the soup and no money in their pockets”, ride a donkey to work and have a poor family. Their son Ma Jiye is the only hope that can change their fate. This is the third feature, it follows Xia Luo te fan nao (2015) & Xi Hong shi shou fu (2018) in “Slinky Town Universe” from screenwriters Da-Mo Peng & Fei Yang starring Teng Sheng. I want to be the wind Composed by Fei Peng Lyrics Tian Tang Performed by Lu Xian Sen. I went to a screening on a Sunday morning and was the only gringo among twenty Asians.
Rina Sa was great as the grandmother
Ma Jiye is the son of a billionaire, but his parents have created an alternate universe for him with seemingly unlimited resources. Teng Sheng and Li Ma are absolutely perfect in these roles. Only by overcoming the most incredible odds can MJ grow into a truly great person capable of leading a huge corporation as a successor. Ma Chenggang and Chunlan almost formed the environment. They raise Ma Ji, acting as a struggling couple, in a miserable slum with a seemingly crippled grandmother in rags.
He is bullied relentlessly because he is poor
Secret entrances and compartments reveal an elegant elevator, an esteemed chef and the entire staff of Ma Chenggang. His English teachers were pretty cool, including a hot Russian girl. The whole conceit is so delightful and fascinating to watch unfold. Despite not knowing Mandarin or Chinese, the subtitles were enough to make me roar with laughter. He collects cans and bottles for the family’s money.
He runs three miles a day to school, then three back
This crazy routine impresses the track coach who comes to their house to recruit her. But his parents fake a leg injury so he doesn’t become a joke. He’ll take the critical college entrance exam and be accepted into the best business school in the country if he kills them. The first born son does not inherit anything in Chinese culture and is painted here as a lost idiot. But will MJ catch the family’s elaborate scam and upset the apple cart?
There are also some really good action scenes
You’ll never guess what’s on the exam answer sheet he sends to his invigilator. The movie is pretty long at 2:13 for a comedy. But if you’re not dying to go to the bathroom, it’s a long and beautiful journey. Congratulations to directors Da-Mo Peng and Fei Yan.
