The first season was an original concept that endured and succeeded on its own, which is not the case for subsequent seasons. The best thing about the second season is the acting. The cast is simply magnificent! Where Squid Game 2 feels weak is in its refusal to address ANY of the many themes this season. There are many ways to create suspense, but the laziest way is to simply refuse to answer all the questions you’ve raised throughout the season, leaving them to be resolved in season three. It’s pretty obvious that the show is now much less interested in telling a satisfying story and more invested in expanding the franchise into a multi-season subscriber retention machine.
